Plunging 270 meters down to a tropical oasis at its base; a lush lost world is all that remains of a vanished ecosystem.

The Kings Canyon Rim Walk is literally and figuratively a walk back in time. Through what is known as The Lost City, contrived from bee-hive like domes of barnished red stone, past an ancient sea bed resplendent with marine fossils of a bygone millennia, and onto the Garden of Eden at the very heart of the canyon.

Here, you'll discover cycad ferns dating back to the time of the dinosaurs, river red gums and more than 600 species of plant life, surviving off the water captured in the surrounding rock. The canyon's rich red colour is said to be the fault of iron-rich dust blown onto the once clean white sandstone and then chemically fixed to the sand grains by a form of fungi that thrive on the iron, silica and rainwater.
